A couple of old Deathlok sketches

Tony

I saw these old Deathlok sketches from a couple years ago in my sketchbook the other day and realized i had never shared them. Just fiddling with a take on the character, for no good reason other than to amuse myself. Deathlok

Deathlok closeup

larger views of each sketch can be found in the GALLERY.

i figured the three main elements of Deathlok are reanimated corpse, cyborg, and soldier, so i tried to shoot for a zombie/Frankenstein/Terminator kind of industrial ass-kicking machine, and keep some of the iconography of the character intact. You'll notice I actually went on to cannibalize quite a bit of this design for what became Punisher: FrankenCastle, so the doodling ended up being pretty damned useful after all!

Comics for Cures sketch cards!

Tony

the guys at Comics for Cures are doing a sketch card fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, so I drew a little inspiration from William Burroughs and Hunter S. Thompson, and I decided to do 'em up a little something special, with some pen & ink, some acrylic-filled squibs, and my bolt action .22. You can bid on these bullet-riddled zombie cards NOW on eBay!

and here's a video, so you can see all the action!

Click here for the same video mirrored on Youtube. For more info on these cards and the cause in general, go check out ComicsforCures.com!

Auld FANG Syne

Tony

Well, it's the end of the year, kiddies, and this is likely my last update of 2009.

So, i figure what better way to drive the last nail in the coffin of another year than with your pal and mine, the Crypt Keeper?

[Click here for a full-resolution view]

thanks for a great year of support. I'm very fortunate to have gotten to play with my friends and bring you stuff like Ghost Rider, Fear Agent, and Punisher, and i know none of it would be possible without the readers. I'm thankful you guys enjoy the kinda fun i'm trying to sling here. Here's to you and yours, and to an equally bombastic 2010!

Also, many thanks to my lovely wife, for yet another year of supporting the madness of a fully-gown man who sits in his pajamas all day drawing cowboys punching robots, and for going so far as to even see fit to bear my child. We've come a long way, but we've still got a lot of really fun looking road ahead of us. Me, you, and Emmylou.

...Mold Lang Syne? i dunno... couldn't settle on a crypt-worthy pun. Cheers, gang!

Punisher #11 preview art!

Tony

Anyone who's been wondering what the hell I've been doing and why I haven't updated this site in a dog's age now has their answer. It's with great joy I give you the first few pages of my first issue of Punisher #11: Franken-Castle!

it's due on shelves Wednesday, Nov 18th!
if you're a skeptic, all i can say is, if you ever enjoyed what Rick and I do together, you'll surely dig what we've been laying down here.

introducing The SkinBender

Tony

this hot leathery Japanese nightmare is a malicious new villain whom Jason Aaron and i introduce in Ghost Rider #35, and her name is The SkinBender. If you like the shenanigans we've been up to in the book so far, i think you'll really enjoy this one. it wraps up my run on Ghost Rider, and I couldn't be prouder of what we've done in these scant 3 issues.

for a larger view, visit the SKETCHBOOK GALLERY

also, you can already PRE-ORDER the upcoming paperback collection of Ghost Rider: Trials and Tribulations from Amazon.com!

The Highwayman redesign

Tony

Here's my redesign of the US-1 villain, The Highwayman, who will be making a glorious return in Ghost Rider #34 this April.

i'm pretty thrilled with the issue, and i think you guys will get a kick out of it, too!

The Walking Dead #60 cover

Tony

the biggest question i always get is "when are you returning to the Walking Dead?" and since i've never had any plans to return, i've always said, "Never."

but like my mom always said, never say never, and here i am, returning to FULL art duty on The Walking Dead for a 6-issue fill-in arc, starting with #60, following my upcoming Fear Agent story.

Zombie commission

Tony

here's a commission from an eBay auction quite some time ago. He finally figured out what he wanted, so i went to town on it for him. Here it is, in ink and charcoal.

Thanks, Brandon and Christinna!

Dr Sketchy's: Gravity Plays Favorites

Tony

So, Dr Sketchy's tonight featured Gravity Plays Favorites, a pole-dancing acrobatic duo from St Louis. Really great models and performers. I'm glad i didn't miss it, and got some good life drawing out of it. here are a couple of the longer poses, and i'll try to get some of their really wild gesture poses from my sketchbook before too long.

if you see that they're performing near you sometime soon, do yourself a favor and go support 'em.
